Are You A Parent Of An Injured Youth Athlete?
A Personal Message From Dr. Adam Shildmyer
Are you worried about your child losing practice time, missing games, or even their entire season because of an injury that won’t go away?
Have you tried pain medications, resting or icing the injury only to see short term relief or the injury getting worse?
Are you concerned about your child’s future performance and the potential of missing out on recruitment or scholarship opportunities?
Are you someone who values their child’s health and is looking for a long-term solution to get rid of the injury and get them back to operating at optimal performance?
If You Answered “Yes” To Any Of These Questions, You Are In The Right Place!
It’s very common to put off seeking treatment for a sports injury, hoping that it will go away on its own (but unfortunately that is rarely the case). Many young athletes will suffer with sports injuries because they’re afraid to tell their coaches or parents that something is wrong - in fear of losing out on playing time.
If you’re concerned that is happening with your child - you’re definitely not alone - I hear this type of thing all the time.
In fact, youth athletes are some of the most common clients I treat at Vertical Sports Physical Therapy
Some Of The Common Injuries We See In Youth Athletes At Vertical Sports Physical Therapy Are…
Back Pain
Knee Injuries
Ankle Sprains
Achilles Tendonitis
Plantar Fasciitis
Hamstring Strains
Quad Strains
Sports Hernias
Concussions
Shin Splints
Shoulder Injuries
And more…
There is a lot of BAD ADVICE Out There Regarding Youth Athletic Injuries
What’s False:
Just “rest” and your injury will get better
Ice it tonight and then you’ll be ready to get back out to practice tomorrow
Just take some pain meds or muscle relaxants and it will go away
The Truth is:
Resting doesn’t change anything. It might make you feel better in the short term, but the pain will return and the injured area is now compromised.
Icing isn’t enough. It reduces pain and swelling temporarily.
Pain meds mask the symptoms. Reducing discomfort doesn’t treat the actual problem.

If you don’t choose the best provider for your child, they could end up sitting on the sidelines longer than necessary or setting themselves up for further injury
Active Recovery is often even more important. It could be that your athlete can continue to practice while properly rehabbing and strengthening the injury to ensure a return to peak performance.
We understand that you want to get this injury dealt with so that it doesn’t become a chronic issue affecting your child for years to come.
In order to do that, you can’t just treat the pain - but you need a provider who is willing to figure out WHY the injury happened and what needs to be done in order to keep it from happening again.
Finally Get Rid Of Your Youth Athlete’s Injury And Keep It From Coming Back!
Your child doesn’t have to sacrifice the sports they love over problems that can be fixed.
Let’s talk about how we can get them back in the game and playing their best yet!
Sincerely,
