How To Put an End to Knee Pain and Stiffness - without painkillers and without risking surgery!

Knee injuries are a common issue, particularly among athletes and active adults. At Vertical Sports Physical Therapy, many of the knee injuries we treat stem from instability in the knee. This could involve a kneecap that frequently dislocates or feels loose, an ACL injury (including post-operative recovery), or a strain affecting one of the many ligaments and structures in the knee. Additionally, we often see patients with arthritis, leading to stiffness and immobility in the joint.

What are the symptoms of Knee Pain?

Symptoms of knee pain can present in many ways. You may experience a dull ache, sharp pain, or stiffness in the joint – making it difficult to move comfortably. You may notice swelling or tenderness around the knee, particularly after exercise or injury. Instability is another frequent issue, where the knee feels as though it might give out during movement.

If you have cartilage or ligament damage, you may experience a clicking or popping sensation when bending or straightening the knee. For others, especially those with arthritis, stiffness, or a grinding sensation may occur, particularly in the morning or after long periods of rest. Pain may also radiate to surrounding areas, such as the thigh or shin.

Regardless of the specific symptoms you may be experiencing, knee pain can significantly impact your ability to move freely, making it important to address the issue with targeted treatment.

What Is Our Approach To Fixing / Treating Knee Pain?

At Vertical Sports Physical Therapy, one key tool used in knee injury treatment is force plates. These allow for a detailed assessment of asymmetries in movement and strength. For example, if a client has a left knee injury, force plates can determine if they are 20% weaker on that side compared to the other. This information helps guide treatment, with the goal of reducing the asymmetry to within a 5% threshold, which indicates a higher likelihood of a successful return to activity.

Our care doesn’t stop at assessments. We combine these insights with hands-on treatments like soft tissue massage and joint mobilizations to restore mobility and reduce discomfort. Once your joint mobility is optimized, we build strength through targeted exercises tailored to your unique needs and goals. Whether you’re looking to return to sports, regain confidence in daily activities, or move pain-free, our customized programs are designed to help you succeed.

At Vertical Sports PT, we focus on more than just recovery; we strive to make you functionally stronger and better prepared for the activities you love.
